The book Billions of entrepreneurs – How China and India Are Reshaping Their Futures and Yours is not about startups and founders. Instead it is an account of the cultural, political, and religious backgrounds of India and China. The author draws comparisons between each nation using selected stories of individuals throughout history. Most intriguing were the highlighted costs to businesses related to operating within India and China. Each has its own soft costs that go well beyond simple infrastructure and operational costs, but extend to developing your own competitors and forgiving intellectual property.
I picked up this book given my extensive background – working with / having friends that are from these two countries. Unfortunately, I do not feel the book delivered on its title, or was entirely fair to Western and Eastern cultures. I would have preferred there to be more focus on the opportunity of innovative persons and businesses.
Bottom line: You will take something away, but not the best book on these two cultures.
